WINTER HAVEN, Fla. — After producing
double figure hits in each of its last four games, St. Bonaventure
hit a bit of a snag at plate on Saturday morning en roué to
a 14-1 loss to Big East foe Villanova at the RussMatt Central
Florida Invitational.
The win improves the Wildcats to an impressive 10-1 on the season,
while the Brown and White had their two-game win streak snapped.
The Bonnies now stand at 2-5 with two games remaining on the
trip.
Villanova sophomore Kyle McMyne tossed six strong innings to pick
up his second win of the season. McMyne struck out six and gave up
just three hits.
Two of St. Bonaventure four hits came off the bats of freshman
Billy Urban and Jesse Bosnik who
extended their hit streaks to six and five games, respectively.
Urban also drove in the only run of the game with a groundout to
short in the third inning.
The Wildcats plated four run in the bottom of the second inning off
of starter Dennis Sherba to take the early lead.
Villanova then followed with runs in the third, fifth and sixth
innings before a seven-run seventh blew the game wide open.
Sherba lasted 5.2 innings before being relieved by sophomore
Jordan Crane. Crane finished off the final 2.1
innings despite getting touched up during the seven-run
seventh.
With just two games remaining, St. Bonaventure will look to rebound
against Sacred Heart on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. The Bonnies will send
junior Cael Johnson to the mound. Johnson's
first start of the season against Northeastern was cut short due to
a rain delay.
