ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. — Junior Jesse
Bosnik drilled three home runs in game one to help St.
Bonaventure pick up its first Atlantic 10 win of the season and
earn a split during a doubleheader against Fordham on Saturday at
Fred Handler Park.
Bosnik's three homers brought in six runs, as the Bonnies
took the opener, 11-7. The Rams controlled game two from start to
finish for the 9-1 win. Sunday's series finale will begin at
noon.
All three of Bosnik's hits on the afternoon were home
runs, as he upped his hit streak to 19 games before having it
snapped in the nightcap. Bosnik's second home run was the
150th hit of his career making him the 15th
player in program history to accomplish the feat.
Fellow St. Marys, Pa. natives Nick
Brennen and Brad
Steinbach joined Bosnik in the hit parade. Brennen
went 5-for-8 from the plate over the two games with a double and an
RBI. Steinbach finished 4-for-8 with his team-best third triple,
two runs scored and two RBI. Both Brennen and Steinbach stole
two bases.
Freshman Andrew
Revello got the nod on the mound in game one and
earned the win after going six strong innings. Revello evened his
record at 2-2 with the win, striking out a season-high six while
allowing five earned runs on five hits.
The Bona bats provided Revello with some run support early in
the opener, plating seven runs over their first three at-bats. The
Brown and White jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning on
Bosnik's three-run home run to the opposite field, as the
lefty cracked a line drive over the 375-foot sign in left center
field.
After a four-run third inning by Fordham gave the Rams their
first lead of the game at 5-4, the Bonnies bounced back with three
runs over their own in their half of the third to regain the lead
for good, at 7-5. Steinbach's triple brought home the first
run, while freshman Billy
Urban's single drove home the second run
followed by Brennen's RBI double.
With the lead back in his hands, Revello settled down to retire
seven straight batters as Bosnik's two-run home run in the
fourth and solo shot in the sixth gave the first-year righty all
the support he needed.
The Bonnies finished game one with 15 hits. Sophomore Ryan
Skellie had three singles and Urban drove in a pair of
runs on his two singles.
Game two belonged to Fordham, as junior Max Krakowiak limited
St. Bonaventure to just one run and six hits over a complete game
victory on the mound. Krakowiak gave up a run in the first inning
and then held the Bonnies scoreless over their final eight
at-bats.
The Rams broke a 1-1 tie in the top of the third with two runs
and added two in the seventh before sealing the game with four more
in the ninth.
Brennen started on the mound for the Brown and White in game
two, going 4.2 innings, striking out six, while giving up five
hits, four walks and three runs. Five different pitchers saw time
after Brennen's departure.
