ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – Despite a quick
4-1 lead early in the first half, the St. Bonaventure women's
lacrosse team dropped its Atlantic 10 game against the visiting
George Washington Colonials, 19-14, on a rainy and windy Friday
afternoon at McGraw-Jennings Field.
The Bonnies now fall to 7-8 on the season and 2-4 in conference
play while George Washington improves to 5-10 overall and 3-3 in
A-10 action.
Senior Molly Hastrich and sophomore
Danielle Drabin led the way for the Brown and
White with three goals each while four other Bonnies added two
apiece. Hastrich also added two assists on the day.
The Bonnies opened up with a 4-1 lead by the 24:32 mark.
Junior Christine Hanley started the scoring just
49 seconds into the first and Daisy Timlin netted
the second goal at 28:23. GW hit its goal just under 25 minutes
sandwiched between two of Drabin's goal.
The Colonials opened a 6-0 run to halt the Bonnies'
momentum, taking a 7-4 lead at 9:32. Sophomore
Samantha Cavallaro opened a 5-2 run for St.
Bonaventure to take a 9-9 score into the half.
George Washington continued its lead going on a 6-1 tear to open
the half, taking a 15-10 lead with 15:35 left in the second
frame. Sophomore Elizabeth Demara added two
goals just three minutes apart bringing the Bonnies within four,
16-12, the closest they would come for the remainder of the
game.
Nicole Lacey paced the Colonials with five goals while Abby
Sneeringer, Megan Seidman and Sarah Phillips each added four goals
of their own. Liz Hoffman picked up the win with six
saves.
The Bonnies close out their regular season against Richmond on
Sunday. St. Bonaventure will celebrate its four seniors
– Molly Hastrich, Tori Waheibi, Sarah Gagnon and Ashley Fischer. Game time begins at noon at McGraw-Jennings
Field.
