ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. — Behind an eight-inning gem by redshirt freshman pitcher Eddie Gray in game two, St. Bonaventure earned a split of a doubleheader against Saint Joseph's on Sunday and in the process won its first Atlantic 10 series of the season.

The Hawks took the opener, 10-1, but the Bonnies rebounded in game two behind Gray and a season-high 18 hits to take the series-deciding game, 11-1.

The split moves the Brown and White to 8-20 on the season and 3-9 in the A-10. Saint Joseph's now stands at 12-18 and 7-5 in the conference. St. Bonaventure has taken nine of the last 12 meetings from the Hawks and has been on the positive end of the last four three-game series against SJU.

After Saint Joseph's produced 10 runs and 13 hits during its win in the opener, Gray quieted the SJU bats in game two. Gray gave up just six hits and one run over eight innings while striking out four. The win was the second of the week for Gray, who moved into the team lead for victories by evening his record at 3-3.

As impressive as Gray was the Bona bats matched the lefty's performance with 18 hits. All nine positional starters in game two finished with at least one hit, while seven players had multi-hit games.

With the score knotted at 1-1 through two innings, freshman Billy Urban's RBI single in the bottom of the third to score junior Jesse Bosnik gave the Bonnies the lead for good and started a string of 10 unanswered runs.

St. Bonaventure started a string of four straight innings with at least two runs in the fifth when an RBI double by freshman Austin Ingraham and an RBI single by freshman catcher Zach Buckler (pictured) pushed the lead to 4-1. Buckler's single to right field was his first collegiate hit.

The Bonnies added two more runs in the sixth and seventh innings before capping things off with three in the eighth for the 11-1 final. Sophomore Nick Brennen drove in three of the seven runs over the team's final three at-bats, highlighted by his seventh home run of the season in the eighth inning.

Bosnik and sophomore Ryan Skellie led the team with four hits each over the two games on a day that saw the Brown and White finished with 25 hits. Senior Nick Cunliffe, junior Derek Speaker and Urban each had three hits on the day. Speaker finished series with seven hits, including three doubles. Freshman Jason Radwan reached base in seven of nine plate appearances, earning five of the team's nine walks on the day with two hits.

St. Bonaventure will be back in action on Tuesday, April 20 when it hosts Bucknell in a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m. Both games are scheduled for seven innings.
