ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. — Le Moyne jumped out
to early leads in both games and never looked
back as it swept a non-conference doubleheader from St. Bonaventure
on Tuesday afternoon at Fred Handler Park.
The Dolphins (18-14) extended their winning streak to four games
by taking game one, 9-2, and game two, 9-5. The Bonnies have now
dropped eight straight games and stand at 4-16 overall. The Brown
and White will head to Niagara on Wednesday for a nine-inning
affair.
Junior Jesse Bosnik (pictured) was the
highlight of the day at the plate, going a combined 3-for-6. All
three of Bosnik's hits were of the extra-base variety, as he
stretched his hit streak to 18 games with a pair of doubles in the
opener and a two-run homer in game two.
In all, the Bonnies finished the two games with 18 hits. Senior
Nick Cunliffe had a team-high four hits with two
runs scored and an RBI. Sophomore Nick Brennen and
freshman Billy Urban had two hits each in game
two. Brennen's final hit was a double.
Freshman Robert Nalepa made his first career
start in the opener, going 6.2 innings in the loss. Nalepa moved to
1-1 on the season after giving up seven earned runs and 11
hits.
Nalepa limited the Dolphins to just one run over the first four
innings of the opener, but the visitors scored three runs in the
fifth and five more in the seventh for the easy win.
St. Bonaventure's lone run of the game came in the bottom
of the seventh on a RBI single by Cunliffe.
Game two saw the Dolphins jump out to another big lead, scoring
runs in four of their first five at-bats to take a commanding 8-0
lead.
The Bonnies started to climb back into the game in their half of
the fifth when an RBI groundout by Urban and Bosnik's fourth
home run of the season cut the deficit to 8-3.
Le Moyne added one more run in the top of the seventh and the
Bonnies attempt at a rally ended with two runs in the bottom of the
seventh and a 9-5 final.
Freshman Eddie Gray was credited with the loss
after giving up seven runs over four innings. Redshirt sophomore
Mike Pease worked the fifth inning, senior
Cory Sudbrook tossed a scoreless sixth and junior
Jamie Wallschlaeger capped the game.
Sudbrook's appearance was the 67th of his career,
moving him three away from tying the all-time record.
