PHILADELPHIA, Pa.
— For the second straight game St. Bonaventure took a lead into the bottom of the ninth and for the second straight game it watched its lead turn into a heartbreaking defeat. La Salle plated two runs in the bottom of the ninth to erase a one-run deficit for a 5-4 win and a series sweep at Hank DeVincent Field.

One day after winning with a walk-off home run in the 11th inning, the Explorers stole another game by plating two unearned runs in the ninth inning. Both runs came across with two outs when junior Brad Steinbach's throw from the mound to first base to get the final out sailed into right field. The game-tying run from third scored easily on the play, while the game-winning came all the way around from first base.

The one-run loss is the ninth of the season for St. Bonaventure (16-29) and its sixth walk-off defeat in Atlantic 10 play. The Bonnies will closeout regular season action this week with five home games at Fred Handler. St. Bonaventure will host Big 4 rival Buffalo on Tuesday in a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.

Making his single-season record-tying 23rd appearance of the season, senior Cory Sudbrook was charged with the loss after the lone batter he faced came around to score the game-winning run. Sophomore Nick Brennen started the game on the mound, but lasted just one inning before giving way to classmate Jordan Crane.

Crane went a career-high 7.2 innings and recorded the first two outs of the ninth inning before giving way to Sudbrook and Steinbach. Over his 7.2 innings of work, Crane gave up three runs on five hits while striking out two.

Steinbach got the Bonnies off to a good start at the plate by drilling a three-run home run over the right field wall in the top of the first to give the visitors a 3-0 lead. Steinbach's sixth home run of the season drove in senior Nick Cunliffe, who worked a leadoff walk, and freshman Jason Radwan who singled.

The Brown and White's final run of the game came in the top of the second on a RBI bunt single by Cunliffe that made the score 4-1.

St. Bonaventure failed to score a run over its final seven at-bats while the Explorers plated two runs in the fifth and their last two in the ninth.

Cunliffe reached base in all five plate appearances, going 3-for-3 with two walks. Steinbach's three run home run highlighted a 2-for-4 day at the dish that also featured a walk. Radwan was the only multi-hit performer for the Brown and White with two singles.
