BONNIES PREPARE FOR A-10 FINALE AGAINST
TEMPLE
ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. — Due cold weather and
rain in the forecast for the entire day, the St.
Bonaventure baseball team's second attempt to host Big 4
rival Buffalo in a pair of seven-inning contests was cancelled on
Tuesday morning.
The two teams were originally scheduled to meet on March 30 at
Fred Handler Park, but rain also put an end to that
doubleheader.
The Bonnies (16-29, 7-17) will now turn their attention to
Temple (12-36, 8-16), who will visit campus for the final Atlantic
10 series for both teams. The two teams will square off in a
three-game set beginning on Thursday at 1 p.m. Game two is
scheduled for Friday at noon, while Saturday's contest will
also start at noon and will be senior day.
The first two games of the series can be heard locally on WHDL
1450 AM. Gary Nease and Steve Mest will provide the call for both
games, which can also be heard live for free on www.GoBonnies.com through the
service of Stretch Internet.
Several Bonnies will enter the final three games in search of
single-season program records and personal bests. Junior
Jesse Bosnik is just one double away from becoming
the first player in program history with double-digit home runs, 20
or more doubles and 10 or more stolen bases in the same season.
Bosnik's 74 hits are second all-time and nine off the school
record set by Randy Moley in 2008. The St. Marys,
Pa. native is also just two RBI away from Brian
Pellegrini's single-season record of 59 set in
2007.
As a team, the Bonnies have been strong at the dish this season,
sporting a 301 batting average – a figure that ranks fifth in
the A-10. Six different players head into the final weekend with
batting averages over .300. Sophomore Nick Brennen
(58) and freshmen Billy Urban (55) and
Jason Radwan (51) all have a chance to join the
60-hit club with Bosnik. The quartet will try to join the 2006 club
as the only teams in program history with four 60-hit performers.
Urban and Radwan both have a shot at breaking the freshman record
of 61 hits that was set in 2004 by Pellegrini.
On the mound, senior Cory Sudbrook is tied for
the program single-season record for appearances (23) after
breaking the career mark earlier in the season. Fellow relievers
junior Jamie Wallschlaeger (22) and sophomore
Jordan Crane (21) are right behind Sudbrook.
Freshman starters Eddie Gray and Andrew Revello will both be going for their fifth wins in the
11th starts of the season.
