ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – St. Bonaventure baseball head coach Jason Rathbun has announced the addition of Jackson DeJohn and Jackson Root as assistant coaches on staff for the 2025-26 academic year.

DeJohn will serve as the team's hitting coach in his second season on the staff following a standout playing career with the Bonnies. As a player, DeJohn started 154 of 161 career games behind the plate, finishing his seasons in the Brown and White with 126 total hits, 77 runs, 24 doubles, nine homers and 61 RBIs while being one of the Atlantic 10's top catchers defensively. During his time as a student-athlete, he was named to the Buster Posey Award Watch List as one of the nation's top catchers and was selected to the Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Roll for his work in the classroom as well.

Last year, DeJohn was the team's graduate assistant.

Root, who will serve as the team's pitching coach and recruiting coordinator, spent two seasons on staff at Maine, serving as an assistant coach, pitching coordinator and Director of Operations while with the Black Bears, including a 32-win season in 2023 en route to the America East title.

The Vermont native also spent time as general manager and head coach of the Colchester Cannons, a legion and travel summer team, from 2020-24.

Root brings a background in pitching and player development and started his coaching career on his father's staff as the pitching coach at Essex High School in Vermont from 2020-22. He graduated from the University of Vermont in 2022 with a degree in public communications.

"We are very excited to add two young coaches who have bright futures as baseball coaches," Rathbun said. "Jackson DeJohn is a former captain for this program and worked as a student assistant last year while finishing his Master's degree. He was a valuable asset last year and we are glad to officially add him to our staff.

"Jackson Root is a motivated and knowledgeable coach who has a strong desire for the game. He comes from a great program in the University of Maine and worked under a coach I have a ton of respect for in Nick Derba. We are very excited to see his impact with our pitching staff."

DeJohn and Root join associate head coach B.J. Salerno and analytics student assistant A.J. Rathbun on the Bonnies coaching staff this season.
