ST. LOUIS – The men's tennis team dropped a 4-0 decision to Charlotte on Sunday morning in the 5th-place match at the Atlantic 10 Championship on the outdoor courts of the Dwight Davis Tennis Center.
After sweeping Saint Joseph's, 4-0, on Saturday to advance in the consolation bracket, the 5th-seeded Bonnies couldn't handle the 6th-seeded 49ers as their season came to a close with a 6th-place finish in the tournament.
Seniors Enric Larregola and Mikhail Sudakov, both playing in their final collegiate match, partnered together at No. 2 doubles and picked up an 8-3 win over Anthony Davison and Krzysztof Kwasniewic. However, Charlotte won the other two doubles matches to claim the point as the two clubs moved into singles.
Needing to win three of the six singles matches to claim the victory, Charlotte did just that, but not without a fight from St. Bonaventure. The 49ers won at the No. 6, 1 and 2 singles slots, respectively; however, the when the matches concluded, St. Bonaventure held leads in the other three singles.
The match brought to an end the careers of Sudakov, Larregola and Chris Post. The Bonnies finish the year with a 10-12 overall record, and will return five letterwinners next year.
