VERNON, N.Y. – Senior Kevin Lewis shot rounds of 79 and 70, and the St. Bonaventure golf team finished its first two rounds of the season in 13th place at the Missouri Tiger Intercollegiate at Turning Stone Resort.
After concluding his opening 18 holes at the Kaluhyat Golf Club with a 7-over 79, Lewis responded with an impressive 2-under 70 in his second round to pace the Bonnies and finish the first 36 holes tied for 34th out of 74 individuals.
The Bonnies shot a team total of 303 in the first round and 309 in the second to finish with a combined total of 612. Baylor University (563) leads the 14-team field by three shots over Purdue University. The host Tigers of Missouri check in one shot behind Purdue.
Junior Brian McKenna opened the invite with a 1-under 71 in his first round, but shot an 80 on the second 18 of the day. The Rochester, N.Y. native is tied for 44th overall, two shots behind Lewis.
Sophomores Scott Brady and Chris Mackey – both of whom played at the 7,105-yard, par-72 Kaluhyat course last fall – finished their opening rounds with scores of 153 and 159, respectively. Junior Greg Horvath rounded out the Bona scoring for the day with two rounds of 83 for a 166 total.
The third and final round of the invitational will tee off at 7:30 Monday morning, a half hour earlier than originally scheduled. The shotgun start has Bona players teeing off from the 15th hole to the 18th hole. Fans looking for live tournament updates can follow along with head coach John Powers as he Tweets from the course.
