Marin-Salcedo Leads Perfect Bona Tennis Weekend

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – Senior Manuela Marin-Salcedo helped the women's tennis team (5-3) to a perfect weekend as she went 4-0 in leading SBU to a 4-3 win over IUP on Friday and a 7-0 blanking of Bucknell on Saturday.

Marin-Salcedo went 2-0 at No. 1 singles and 2-0 at No. 2 doubles with partner Fatya Amiri. Against IUP and Buckell she earned straight-set wins, 6-3, 6-1, and 6-2, 7-5, respectively, while in doubles she claimed an 8-4 victory and 8-6 triumph, respectively.

Playing out of the No. 5 singles slot, junior Kathryn Kvas clinched the hard-fought victory for the Brown and White with a 6-4, 6-4 win. IUP claimed the doubles point, but wins by Amiri, 6-1, 6-4, and freshman Marissa Brossard, 6-2, 6-2, out of No. 2 and No. 3 singles, respectively, helped aid in the SBU comeback.

On Saturday, Bonaventure allowed Bucknell to win just one set the entire match in a dominating performance. Marin-Salcedo once again paced with attack as she earned another doubles win with Amiri, 8-6, before moving on to a 6-2, 7-5 singles win.

With the wins, Marin-Salcedo is now 4-0 on the year when playing out of the No. 1 singles position and moves to 5-1 on the season when partnering with Amiri.

The Bonnies return to action on Saturday, March 3, at Virginia Tech against Atlantic 10 foe Charlotte.
