WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – The St. Bonaventure baseball team won their third straight game Friday afternoon defeating the Mount St. Mary's Mountaineers 5-3 in Winter Haven, Fla.
Senior right-handed pitcher Jordan Crane threw a complete game for the Bonnies, recording 10 strikeouts and allowing eight hits, three earned runs, one hit batsman and zero runs or walks.
The Bonnies opened the scoring in the top of the third inning. Junior first baseman Austin Ingraham recorded a two RBI double allowing junior catcher Nick Lohrer and junior shortstop Michael Meredith to score.
After Mount St. Mary's scored a run in the bottom of the third, St. Bonaventure added three runs in the top of the fifth. Junior third baseman Billy Urban hit an RBI double, batting in Meredith. Urban later scored following a single by sophomore first baseman Justin Brozick. Senior Nick Brennen reached home plate following a rundown involving Brozick.
The Mountaineers scored twice in the eighth, but ultimately couldn't rally to defeat the Brown and White.
On Thursday, St. Bonaventure scored 20 unanswered runs in a 20-4 victory over Mount St. Mary's. After allowing four first inning runs, the Bonnies scored their first run of the game on a RBI single by Brozick in the third.
The Brown and White took the lead in the fourth, scoring three times. Junior second baseman Jason Radwan hit a single, batting in Urban and Brennen. The team added another run on a sacrifice fly.
St. Bonaventure's lineup batted around in the fifth, adding six more runs. Junior second baseman Eric Jutca hit a RBI single and Brennen scored on an error by the Mountaineer's shortstop. Meredith and Urban hit RBI singles. Brennen and Radwan hit RBI doubles.
The Bonnies' scoring continued in the sixth with four runs. Radwan recorded a RBI single, Urban scored on a sacrifice fly, freshman Nathan Shaw hit a RBI single and the team scored a run on a wild pitch.
The Brown and White concluded their scoring with six seventh inning runs. Radwan hit another RBI single while Urban recorded a two RBI double and scored on a fielder's choice. Freshman outfielder Bret Heath scored on a Lohrer single and a Mount St. Mary's balk added to the Bonnies' run total.
Radwan and Urban lead the team at the plate, hitting four for five with four RBI and three for four with five RBI respectively.
Three pitchers contributed to the Bonnies' win. Senior right-hander Cael Johnson started the game, pitching four and two thirds innings recording five strikeouts and five walks and allowed four earned runs and seven hits. Urban, a right-handed pitcher earned the win, throwing two and one thirds innings recording three strikeouts and a walk and allowing zero hits. Sophomore right-hander Asa Johnson pitched the eighth inning striking out one batter and giving up a walk. Freshman righty Zachary Edwards finished off the game striking out two hitters in the ninth.
The Bonnies, now with a 5-2 record, will take on Georgetown at 6 p.m. tomorrow in the first of a two-game series from Winter Haven. The Hoyas are 6-2 this season.
