ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – St. Bonaventure sophomores Fatya Amiri (pictured) and Marissa Brossard each registered singles victories, but the Bonnies fell to St. Francis (Pa.), 5-2, on Sunday in women's tennis action at the SBU Fitness Center.
Amiri topped Rafaela Panizza, 6-2, 6-2, at first singles and Brossard followed with a 6-3, 6-1 triumph over Shivani Patel at the second position to lead St. Bonaventure, which dropped to 0-2 after opening the spring season with a home loss to Navy on Saturday. St. Francis improved to 2-1.
Brossard raised her singles record to 5-4 on the year while Amiri picked up her third singles victory. Kathryn Kvas, Taylor Cole, Riley Archer and Jillian Hammell lost in straight sets in other singles matches for the Bonnies.
In doubles competition, Kvas and Cole were edged by Patel and Alex Sachs, 8-7 (1), at the second position. Amiri and Brossard suffered an 8-4 loss at No. 1 doubles, while Archer and Hammell were defeated 8-0 at third doubles.
SBU returns to action with a pair of home matches at 5 p.m. Friday against Robert Morris and 1 p.m. Saturday against Slippery Rock.
