The scoreless first half of play was evenly matched, as both teams recorded three shots; two shots on target each. Â
In the second half, the ball would find the back of the net three times. In the 55th minute, Pat Sullivan of La Salle opened up the scoring when he headed in a ball off of a cross-feed in front of the net. The goal was Sullivan's first of the season. St. Bonaventure would answer back eight minutes later, when
Emmett O'Connor placed a header into the back of the net off of a free kick courtesy of
Brad Vanino. The assist was Vanino's team-leading sixth of the season. However, the Explorers would answer back in the 79th minute as Jason Plumhoff scored his team-leading 6th goal.
Bonnies coach Mel Mahler had this to say following the match: "A very disappointing loss. The boys played a great match and a questionable red card changed the complexion of the match. The boys deserved better but it is something we can't dwell on. We need to focus our efforts on the remaining 6 conference games to find a way to make up for lost points today. The results don't show how well we played this weekend. We're encouraged from that standpoint."
SBU finished the game with a 9-7 advantage in shots. Bonnies goalkeeper
Jeremy Figler registered three saves in the set-back.
St. Bonaventure continues play on the road next weekend, when they travel to Duquesne for a contest on Saturday night (Oct. 19) in the team's only match of the week.Â
