PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Duquesne recorded a 3-1 win over St. Bonaventure in women's soccer action on Saturday night at Rooney Field.
St. Bonaventure, which had won two of its prior three games, fell to 0-2 in the Atlantic 10 Conference and 3-6-1 overall. Playing its initial A-10 game this season, Duquesne posted its fourth straight win and improved to 5-4-1 overall.
Duquesne grabbed the lead in the 18th minute when Maggie Mayo headed the ball past Bonnies sophomore keeper Christina Sarokon. Cydney Staton made it 2-0 when her long shot eluded Sarokon in the 36th minute.
Early the second half, A.J Baroffio gave the Dukes a 3-0 lead when she took a pass from Maddie Layman and scored from five yards out.
Just three minutes later, St. Bonaventure junior Caitlin MacConnell chipped a shot over Dukes keeper Devon Tabata to cut the deficit down to two goals. It was MacConnell's third goal of the season. However, Duquesne limited the Bonnies to two shots on goal the rest of the night.
The Dukes enjoyed a 19-6 advantage in shots, including 8-4 in shots on goal.
Due to a lightning delay, the game began an hour later then the scheduled 7 p.m. start.
St. Bonaventure is idle until next Saturday, Oct. 12, when the Bonnies travel to Richmond for a 7:30 contest.
