How It Happened

St. Bonaventure earned its 20th consecutive victory over Big 4 opponents in dominant fashion on Wednesday night over Canisius. The Bonnies led wire-to-wire, and the game was only tied up once and that was in the first five minutes. The Brown and White, who led by as many as 22 points, took a 10 point lead into halftime, their largest lead of the game at the time. Katie Healy led all players in points (11), rebounds (9) and assists (4) in the first half. The Bonnies shot 40% in the first half (10-25), while Canisius was 24% shooting from the floor and just 2-11 from three-point range.

SBU came out of the halftime break determined to build on its 10-point lead and Gabby Richmond's 14-point second half performance appeared to be just what the Bonnies needed to put the Griffs away. The trio of Healy, Richmond and Little combined for 26 of the Bonnies 33 second half points. By the 11 minute mark of the 2nd half, back-to-back three-pointers by Chelsea Bowker gave the Brown and White a 22 point lead, their largest of the night. The closest the Griffs would come to catching the Bonnies in the final 10 minutes was within 14 points in the closing seconds, as St. Bonaventure cruised comfortably to the 14 point victory.
