ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – The St. Bonaventure women's tennis team was blanked, 7-0, by Temple in its Atlantic 10 home-opening match on Sunday at the SBU Fitness Center.
The injury-depleted Bonnies fell to 2-8 and 0-2 in conference play on the spring season. The squad was also down two players in three matches last weekend.
Marissa Brossard (pictured) nearly pulled out a victory for St. Bonaventure at first singles, but the sophomore was edged, 6-4, 2-6, 10-3 by Yana Marvina. Brossard was aiming for her team-leading 10th individual win of the year.
SBU's three remaining singles players were defeated in straight sets.
The Bonnies' doubles teams of Brossard and senior Kathryn Kvas and senior Riley Archer and freshman Jillian Hammell were bested, 8-2 and 8-0, respectively.
St. Bonaventure forfeited a singles and doubles match each to the Owls, who halted their five-match losing streak and improved to 2-7 overall and 1-2 in the Atlantic 10.
The Bonnies stay home this coming weekend to host New Jersey Tech at 11 a.m. Saturday and IPFW at 3 p.m. Sunday.
