BRONX, N.Y. – Senior Luis Guevara and junior Javier Ortiz posted singles and doubles victories against Fordham on Thursday, but it wasn't enough as the St. Bonaventure men's tennis team suffered a 4-3 loss to the Rams on Thursday afternoon at the Hawthorn/Rooney Courts.

Guevara (pictured) partnered with classmate Oscar Yanez for an 8-5 first doubles victory over Srikar Alla and J.J. Tauil, and the Venezuelan then added a 6-3, 7-5 triumph over Tauil at third singles. Ortiz, meanwhile, combined with classmate Elliot Fanshel for an 8-5 second doubles win over Matty Najfeld and Max Peara before rallying for a 4-6, 6-2, 6-4 fourth singles victory.

But Fordham (6-7) took the match after SBU freshman Gabriel Cardenas and sophomore Trevor Haskell fell in three sets at fifth and sixth singles, respectively. Cardenas bowed to Jan Krouham, 6-2, 2-6, 7-5, while Haskell was defeated by Peder Gram, 6-2, 4-6, 6-4.

Cardenas and Haskell started the afternoon by teaming for an 8-5 victory over Gram and Michael Puntillo as the Bonnies (4-10) swept the three doubles matches.

At first and second singles, St. Bonaventure's Fanshel and Yanez were defeated in straight sets.

Guevara and Yanez improved their doubles mark to 13-9 while Fanshel and Ortiz moved to 7-5 together. In singles play, Ortiz collected his team-leading 11th win while Guevara posted his 10th individual victory.

The Bonnies next travel to Philadelphia for matches against La Salle at 1 p.m. Friday and Saint Joseph's at 10 a.m. Saturday.
