ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – The St. Bonaventure women's tennis team closes its regular season schedule with a matchup against Xavier, one of the top teams in the Atlantic 10, at 11 a.m. Saturday at the SBU Fitness Center.
The Musketeers are 16-5 overall, 8-0 in conference matches and aiming for a fifth straight win heading into the Atlantic 10 Championships April 18-21 in Charlottesville, Va. The Bonnies, meanwhile, are 3-15 overall, 1-4 in the A-10 and are looking to snap a three-match slide before competing in the conference tournament.
St. Bonaventure has struggled against Xavier in recent years, having suffered four shutouts in the last three seasons against the Musketeers. Included in those four losses was a 4-0 setback in in 2011 A-10 Championships.
Behind a 29-6 record by Alex Brinker, Xavier players are 111-95 overall in singles matches. The Musketeers are 48-51 in doubles plays, led by the duo of Kally Alkire and Katie Pleiman (10-7 together).
Since a 4-3 victory at La Salle, the Bonnies have lost to rivals Duquesne and Niagara. Two of SBU's three wins this season have come at home, while Xavier is 7-3 on the road.
Sophomore Marissa Brossard leads SBU with 12 singles victories, while classmate Fatya Amiri is close behind with 11. The tandem of Brossard and Amiri top the club with five doubles triumphs on the year.
