ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – The St. Bonaventure lacrosse team (6-10, 0-6 Atlantic 10) will conclude its 2013 season by welcoming La Salle (8-6, 1-5) on senior day, Sunday (Apr. 21) at 1 p.m. The Bonnies will look to avoid their second consecutive winless A-10 slate.
Last time out, the Bonnies struggled with No. 12 UMass as the Minutewomen jumped out to an 11-0 lead before allowing the Brown and White to score. Umass would ultimately run away with a 19-2 victory to remain perfect in Atlantic 10 play.
The last time the Bonnies won a game against an A-10 opponent, they defeated La Salle, 15-10 at Alfred University on April 15, 2011. La Salle enters Sunday's contest having lost on Friday (Apr. 19) to Duquesne 20-6. The Explorers lone A-10 victory came at home against in-city rival Temple, 14-13. Caitlyn Brostrand leads La Salle with 45 points accumulated mostly by her 43 goals. Lauren McDermott follows Brostrand with 24 goals and eight assits for 32 points. Melanie Sarincello and Katelyn Fay have scored 23 and 22 goals respectively.
Prior to the game, St. Bonaventure will celebrate the final game for its three seniors, Kellyn Savage, Marybeth Madia and Kelly Yaworsky.
Kellyn Savage
Savage has been a key defender during her time at St. Bonaventure. The Syracuse native has started in every game since her sophomore year and placed fourth on the team with 24 ground balls in 2011. Savage picked up a career best four ground balls twice so far in 2013. She did so opposite Bucknell and nationally ranked UMass. This season, Savage has scored 3 goals and collected at team-high 28 ground balls.
Marybeth Madia
Senior attacker Marybeth Madia came into her college career just as strong as she will leave it. As a junior, Madia scored 8 goals on 18 shots. To finish off her career, Madia has scored 13 goals on the season and has captured six ground balls. The Liverpool, N.Y. native has scored in nine of the Bonnies 16 games this season. She netted three goals in the 14-7 victory over Coastal Carolina. She also recorded multiple goals against Delaware State and Bucknell.
Kelly Yaworsky
Defender Kelly Yaworsky began her career by appearing in six games in 2010. The Liverpool, N.Y. native, captured eight ground balls in the 2012 season. She finishes out her career with 16 ground balls so far as a starter for all 16 games in 2013. Yaworsky has collected three ground balls on two occassions this season. First opposite Canisius and then against Saint Joseph's. Yaworsky leaves having appeared in 39 games.
