The Short Story:
The St. Bonaventure men's soccer team allowed three goals in the first half and one in the second to succumb to a 4-0 defeat on Tuesday, October 21 against Big 4 rival, Buffalo Bulls.
Buffalo jumped out to an early lead with a goal occurring in the 10th minute, when Marcus Hanson received the pass from Russell Cicerone and avoided the St. Bonaventure goalkeeper, Jeremy Figler, to score the first goal of the game.Â
At the 24th minute mark, the Bulls extended their lead as the Bonnies were called on a penalty inside the box that gave UB a penalty kick. Cicerone lined up 12 yards away from the net and placed it home to put Buffalo up by two.
Just 13 minutes later, Cicerone found the back of the net again as he collected the pass from Hanson in front of the box and beat the goalie in the lower left corner.
SBU senior goalkeeper, Bobby Diaz, relieved Jeremy Figler in the beginning of the second half. Diaz faced nine shots and recorded eight saves. Diaz's lone goal allowed came in the 83rd minute off the foot of Nicolai Berry, who scored past Diaz on a ball that went to the lower right corner.
Freshman Kieran Toland led St. Bonaventure with three shots, while Joshuah Beshaw had two and Nicholas Perillo, Breno Calegari and Eric Smolarek each had one.
