The Short Story: St. Bonaventure looked strong in its exhibition game Saturday in the Reilly Center, handling Division II Mansfield by a score of 86-45.
The Bonnies had a spread out attack with 12 players scoring out of the 14 who played. Dion Wright led the way with 20 points and six rebounds during his 26 minutes on the court. Junior transfer Marcus Posley looked sharp, adding 14 points. Denzel Gregg contributed 11 points.
St. Bonaventure excelled on the defensive side, creating 28 turnovers which the Bonnies converted into 28 points.

How It Happened:
- After a Mansfield layup to open the game, Marcus Posley got the scoring started for the Bonnies, converting all three of his free throws at the 18:55 mark to make it 3-2 Bona.
- A steal and fast break dunk for Dion Wright put the Bonnies up 11-4 with 16:36 left in the first half.
- Youssou Ndoye's fast break slam had the Bonnies up 21-12 with 11:06 remaining.
- Moments later, Posley knocked down a deep three to keep the Bonnies up 24-12.
- Another Posley three with 5:17 remaining in the first half pushed the Bonnies' lead up to 34-18.
- Idris Taqqee hit his first bucket of the year, converting a three-pointer as the shot clock expired to give the Bonnies a 19-point lead at 39-20 with 2:44 left in the half.
- Jalen Adams converted a layup as time expired in the first half, giving the Bonnies a 47-21 lead at the break.
- Andell Cumberbatch started the second half with an emphatic, two-handed put-back dunk that made it 51-21 with 17:58 remaining in the game.
- Wright grabbed a rebound and put back layup with 14:20 left to put the Bonnies up 55-24.
- Jalen Adams hauled in a Taqqee miss and converted an acrobatic layup with 10:01 left in the contest that made it 63-29.
- Denzel Gregg was active on both ends of the floor; he jammed home a break dunk to move the Bonnies to a 78-39 lead with 3:21 remaining in the game.
- While there were some of the expected first-game missed shots and turnovers, St. Bonaventure wound up with 23 assists on 34 field goals.
- St. Bonaventure out-rebounded the Mountaineers 47-40.
Beyond the Box Score:
- The Bonnies had 24 points on fastbreak chances.
- Freshman Jaylen Adams started at point guard; he had five assists, one turnover and fve points in 16 minutes; he went 1-6 from three-point range.
- Junior point guard Iakeem Alston played 22 minutes and had six assists, two points and two turnovers.
- Points in the paint were 54-20 favor St. Bonaventure.
- Ndoye had a fairly quiet night, although he was very active on defense, finishing with two blocks and a steal along with several other deflections and altered Mansfield shots.
- The Bonnies started out shooting well from long distance, going 5-13 (38%) in the first half, but made just one of 10 in the second half.
- St. Bonaventure and Mansfield have played exhibition games every season since 2008.
- The attendance was 3,420 including a strong student contingent.
