The Short Story:
St. Bonaventure overcame a 12-point halftime deficit but Maryland Eastern Shore outlasted the Bonnies, 82-80, on Monday evening at the Reilly Center.

The Hawks, who went 10-17 from three-point range on the night, made just enough plays down the stretch to hold on for the win. Senior center Youssou Ndoye pulled the Bonnies within 81-80 on a put-back with 27 seconds left, and MES guard Ishaq Pitts then missed two free throws.  St. Bonaventure had a chance to take the lead, but Jaylen Adams' three-pointer missed the mark with seven seconds left. MES grabbed the rebound and Pitts made one of two at the line with 4.3 seconds left. The Bonnies could not get off a final shot.

St. Bonaventure dropped to 7-3 on the season with its second home loss (4-2). Marcus Posley led the Bonnies with a career high 26 points. Ndoye finished with 18 points and 12 rebounds, while Dion Wright scored 16 points and Adams had 10 points and seven assists.

How It Happened:

  • Maryland Eastern Shore started quickly, making three early three-pointers to jump out to a 17-7 lead less than seven minutes into the game.
  • The Bonnies pulled within 26-19 on a jumper by Marcus Posley, but the Hawks answered with a 9-2 run to go ahead 35-21 with 6:36 left until halftime.
  • St. Bonaventure was not able to pull any closer than 12 points the rest of the first half, and that was on a dunk by Youssou Ndoye with 1:05 left that made the score 45-33.
  • The Hawks led by that 45-33 margin at intermission as they made 17 of 29 shots (58 percent) from the field, including 7-12 from three-point range.
  • St. Bonaventure went 12-19 from the field and 7-8 at the free throw line in the opening half but still faced its largest halftime deficit of the season.
  • It was still a 10-point MES lead five minutes into the second half when the Bonnies began their comeback. Posley sparked a 10-0 run with a three-pointer and two other scores, the last a drive for a layup that tied the game at 50 with 14:06 remaining.
  • St. Bonaventure took a 53-52 lead on a Posley three-pointer at the 12:57 mark.
  • After a score by MES center Mike Myers, Denzel Gregg hit two free throws to regain the lead at 55-54. That however, was the last Bona lead of the night.
  • Maryland Eastern Shore answered the Bonnies' surge with their own scores, eventually regaining a 65-59 lead with 9:23 left.
  • The Hawks stayed in front the rest of the way, though it was close all the way. The Bonnies pulled within one point three times, the last coming on Ndoye's follow layup with 27 seconds left.
  • St. Bonaventure then fouled MES guard Ishaq Pitts, who missed two free throws with 24 seconds left.
  • St. Bonaventure had a chance to take the lead, but Jaylen Adams' three-pointer missed the mark with seven seconds left. MES grabbed the rebound and Pitts made one of two at the line with 4.3 seconds left.
  • The Bonnies could not get off a final shot as Adams lost control coming up the court.
  • Maryland Eastern Shore made 53.7 percent (29-54) of its shots from the field, which is the highest shooting percentage against the Bonnies this season by 12 percent.  St. Bonaventure had held seven of its previous nine opponents under 40 percent field goal shooting.
  • The Hawks went 10-17 (58 percent) from three-point range.
