The Short Story:
The St. Bonaventure baseball team dropped their season-opener against the Iowa Hawkeyes in Port Charlotte, Fla., 2-0. The Hawkeyes found themselves on the board in the bottom third inning after St. Bonaventure starting pitcher Joel Rosencrance hit Blake Hickman causing a run to come across the plate. In the fifth inning the Bonnies applied pressure to Iowa as Bret Heath doubled to left center and later advancing to third on an error. With no outs, Bonaventure had runners on the corners but failed to convert on its opportunity as the next three batters struck out. Iowa increased their lead in the sixth after Jake Riffice dropped a sac bunt to pitcher that allowed Kris Goodman to score. The Bonnies attempted a late push in the top of the eighth but faltered as they left the bases loaded.
