The Short Story:
The St. Bonaventure baseball team endured its eighth loss of the season on Sunday, March 2 against the Northeastern Huskies, 7-2. The Bonnies were held to only four hits on the day, while the Huskies were able to notch 14. Northeastern jumped out to an early lead in the first inning from a double to right field to drive in two runs. The Huskies went on to extend their lead in the third inning by registering four runs on four hits and also two hit batters. Three innings later, Northeastern tacked on another run to push their lead to seven. In the ninth, St. Bonaventure was finally able to push a couple a run across the board as they posted two runs from two hits.
How It Happened:
- The Huskies' shortstop drove in the first two-runs in the bottom of the first inning with a double to right field.
- Northeastern would lead the third inning off with a double to left field. After advancing to third from a groundout, Burcroff scored the third-run of the game from a wild pitch.
- Still in the same inning, Vosler tripled to center field. With the next at-bat Fanneron singled through the left side to allow Vosler to score.
- With runners on first and second the Huskies converted their opportunity as Allen singled to left field to give them a six-run lead.
- After two scoreless innings, Foster scored for Northeastern after a throwing error on Thad Johnson.
- The Bonnies' bats heated up in the ninth, where the Brown and White led off with a single from Jack McClure. Tommy Styn would pinch-hit for Thad Johnson and earn himself a walk, allowing St. Bonaventure to have runners on first and second.
- With runners on first and second, Andy Lalonde singled to left field that resulted in a run and Styn to advance to second.
- The Bonnies eventually would find themselves with bases load and one out in the top of the ninth as Tyler Bell came to the plate. Bell went on to ground out the second baseman but drove in Styn for St. Bona's second run of the day.
Inside The Box Score:
- St. Bonaventured posted four hits on the day. Among those four hits were McClure and Lalonde's first hits in a SBU uniform.
- Starting pitcher, Connor Grey, threw his first complete game this year as he went eight innings with seven strikeouts.
