Short Story:
The Bonnies started strong but a six-run inning by George Mason ended their hopes in earning the second consecutive Atlantic 10 victory as they fell by a score of 8-3. St. Bonaventure found itself on the scoreboard first in the third inning coming off a deep triple to right center by the SBU third-baseman. Despite entering the bottom of the sixth with a three-run lead, St. Bonaventure's bullpen struggled and ended up faltering the lead in the eighth after the Patriots scored six. The Bonnies looked to make a comeback in the ninth when they had two runners on the bases but weren't able to bring them home. This was St. Bonaventure's first lost when heading into the eighth with a lead.

How It Happened:

  • The Brown and White struck first in the third inning with two outs as Joel Rosencrance tripled to right center to score Jared Baldinelli from second.
  • After the deep triple by Rosencrance, Dylan Dunn singled to third base that allowed Rosencrance to score from third.
  • Justin Brozick led off the fifth inning with a single. In two at-bats later, Rosencrance doubled to right center, which advanced Brozick to push another run across the board.
  • With a three-run lead in tack going into the bottom of the sixth, George Mason finally was able to get to starting pitcher Asa Johnson as Fernandez successfully laid down a squeeze bunt that scored Foley for the Patriots first run of the game.
  • The George Mason's starting pitcher, Montefusco, helped his own cause in the bottom of the seventh, when he doubled to left field that scored the runner from first. At the end of the seventh the Bonnies lead 3-2.
  • The Patriots offense broke out in bottom of the eighth as they were able to register six runs, including a double with the bases loaded that would clear the bases to solidify the Patriots five-run lead headed into the ninth.
  • St. Bonaventure failed to get anything going in the next frame and suffered its seventh lost in conference play.

Inside The Box Score:

  • The Bonnies starting pitcher, Asa Johnson, completed 6.2 innings pitched with four strikeouts and only allowed two runs on seven hits.
  • Baldinelli and Rosencrance each improved their streaks of reaching bases safely to nine and eight games, respectively.
  • After tallying for three-hits today, Brian Weightman now has posted six games this year with two hits or more. Weightman also earned two stolen-bases today.
