The Short Story:
The Fordham Rams jumped out to an early 4-1 lead after four innings and opened up the game in the fifth inning with six-runs to earn their 15-8 victory over the St. Bonaventure Bonnies. Errors went on to plague the Bonnies in the game as they allowed three errors, which resulted in five runs. Committing two of the errors was Thad Johnson, who made up for the mistakes in the field when at the plate as he connected on three extra-base hits, including a solo homerun over the left field fence in the first. The Brown and White went on to pitch by committee after the starting pitcher, Steven Klimek, left the ballgame in the fourth inning as he aggravated a prior injury. The SBU pitcher's went on to face a total of 41 batters and allowed 15 hits.
How It Happened:
- The Fordham Rams right-fielder, Tim Swatek, forced across the first run of the game in the top of the first inning when he tripled to center field to score Runco. This wouldn't be his only triple of the game as he tallied two.
- St. Bonaventure got the run back in the bottom of the first when Thad Johnson homered to left field. This was his third homerun of his career and first of the season.
- The Rams went on to add nine runs in the next four innings, including two doubles from Runco and Swatek that resulted in two RBI.
- With an eight-run lead in tack, Fordham knocked on two more in the top of the sixth. Matthew Kozuch tripled to right center to drive in the runner. Kozuch later scored on a single to left field.
- The triples kept on coming as Charles Galiano of Fordham recorded the fourth triple of the game and scored the runner. David Judisky brought him in later off a fielder's choice. After the top of the seventh the Rams led by 13 runs.
- The Bonnies went on to jump into the triples party as Thad Johnson drove in Jared Baldinelli and Bradley Gresock off a triple down the right-field line.
- Andy Lalonde drove in Johnson from third with a single to left field. After seven innings the Bonnies trailed by 10.
- With two-outs already on the board Thad Johnson once again tripled to score two as Gresock and Tommy Styn came around to touch home plate. Jack McClure helped advance Johnson home off an error on the shortstop.
- The Rams notched on a run in the top of the ninth to give them a 15-7 lead heading into the bottom of the ninth.
- Tyler Bell started off the inning with a double to right field. He would later score off a groundout from Bret Heath.
