The Short Story:
The St. Bonaventure baseball team's late rally against the George Washington Colonials came-up short as the Bonnies fell by a score of 7-5. The Colonials established an early five-run lead after four innings, which help guided them to their two-run victory.

Aaron Weisberg (3-7) registered the win for George Washington, while Connor Grey (2-7) recorded the loss. Grey tallied two strikeouts in the 31 batters he faced. Grey allowed six runs on eight hits.  

How It Happened:

  • The clean-up hitter, Owen Beightol grounded into a double play, but allowed Joey Bartosic to score from third. In the next at-bat, Ryan Xepoleas singled to left field that scored Andrew Selby. 
  • The ballgame remained 2-0 until the fifth inning, where the Colonials tacked on three runs on four hits. Among the three runs was a squeeze bunt play with the bases loaded that resulted in George Washington's fourth run of the game.
  • In the bottom of the fifth, St. Bonaventure pushed across its first run of the game off a Daniel Trimble single to left center that scored Ryan Cox.
  • The Colonials extended their lead back to five runs in the top of the seventh after Selby laid down a sac-bunt to score Eli Kashi.
  • After George Washington added another run in the top of the eighth, the Bonnies would cut into the lead as Dylan Dunn singled to left center, which scored Rosencrance. Due to an error on the left fielder, Thad Johnson and Trimble scored would also come around to score.
  • The Bonnies attempted a late comeback in the ninth as Rosencrance knocked in Trimble from second off a ground-rule double.

 Inside The Box Score:

  • In his final start of the 2014 campaign, starting pitcher Connor Grey completed for seven innings, while allowing five earned runs and striking out two and three walks. Grey threw a total of 130 pitches on the day.
  • The freshman catcher, Daniel Trimble, recorded his first career four-hit game. All of Trimble's hits were singles.
  • Thad Johnson, Justin Brozick and Joel Rosencrance each had multi-hit game, including a double for Joel Rosencrance in the ninth inning.
