The Short Story:
A late rally by the George Washington Colonials pushed themselves in the win column as the St. Bonaventure baseball team falls on senior day (May 17) by a score of 7-5. The Bonnies led for the first six innings but the Colonials fought their way back to earn the two-run victory.

Thad Johnson (1-3) suffered the lost for the Bonnies, while Eddie Muhl (3-0) tallied the win for the Colonials. Each pitcher came in relief. Johnson faced seven batters and allowed two runs on two hits.

How It Happened:

  • George Washington notched the first run of the game in the top of the second as Robert Matthieu singled up the middle to score Ryan Xepoleas.
  • The Colonials' lead wouldn't last long as the Bonnies came back in the next frame to score three runs. Tyler Bell scored the first run for Bonaventure as Bret Heath doubled down the left-field line. Later in the inning, Daniel Trimble reached on an error by the first-baseman, which allowed Heath to score. With runners on first and second, Jared Baldinelli singled to left field that scored Justin Brozick. After two the Bonnies led 3-1.
  • Baldinelli continued his clutch hitting in the fourth as he singled to left center to scored Brozick.
  • The Colonials chipped away at the lead in the top of the sixth, when Xepoleas laid down a squeeze bunt and scored Andrew Selby from third.
  • The Bonnies second-baseman, Baldinelli, recorded his third RBI in the bottom of the sixth as he hit a sac-fly to score Brozick. Heading into the final three innings, SBU led 5-1.
  • George Washington would go on to score six of its seven runs in the final three innings, including two runs in the eighth to tie the game and two runs in the ninth to take the lead.

Inside The Box Score:
