The Short Story:
The St. Bonaventure men's soccer team dropped a tough one today at McGraw-Jennings Field as they fell to Little Three rival Niagara Purple Eagles, 1-0.
While each squad had their share of opportunities in regulation, neither team was able to capitalize, which forced the game into overtime. It would only take Niagara three minutes into the first overtime period to find the back of the net as Nicholas Watson received the pass from Andrew Ferguson to place the ball into the bottom corner of the net.
For the Bonnies, freshman Kieran Toland recorded a career-high four shots, which two of the shots would be on target. In the 75th minute, Toland took a free-kick that was just outside the goalkeeper's box and forced a nice save by the Purple Eagles keeper.
With the win today the Niagara Purple Eagles retains the WNY Big 4 Shield. This was the first match-up for the Bonnies against Big 4 opponents. They will face Canisius later this month and Buffalo in October.
