The Short Story: St. Bonaventure bounced back with a better second round but still finished in seventh place in the field of 12 teams in the 26th Leo Keenan Invitational, which was completed Monday at Bartlett Country Club.
On another day of ideal weather, Robert Morris shot a 284 (+4) for a two-day total of 565 to win the Keenan title by three shots over Humber (Ontario) College. Robert Morris broke its own tournament record of 571 set in 2011.
Monday, Colonial junior Garrett Browning led the way with a five-under par 65, while teammate Ryan Prokay shot a 72 to win medalist honors at 137 (-3) by one shot over Stewart Gray of LIU-Brooklyn. Prokay ended his round in dramatic fashion when he holed a 50-yard wedge shot for an eagle two on the 18th hole.
After shooting a second-round low 283, Drexel finished in third place at 570. Northern Kentucky (574) and Cleveland State (575) completed the top five.
St. Bonaventure improved its score by four shots over its opening round with a 290. Junior Josh Stauffer led the Bonnies on Monday with a two-under par 68. His total of 142 (+2) put Stauffer in a tie for ninth place in the field of 72 players. Bonnies freshman Corey Long shot a 72 to complete an impressive tournament in a tie for 11th at 143. Senior Dan Dunnigan shot 75 for a total of 150 and junior Patrick Milkovich shot 75 for a tournament total of 151. Junior Darren Simons, who is nursing an injured right wrist, shot 86 Monday and finished at 160.
