Bonnies Can't Find Offense, Fall At Richmond

The Short Story:
Offense was hard to come by for St. Bonaventure on Sunday afternoon at Richmond as the Bonnies dropped a 60-41 decision to the Spiders.

St. Bonaventure trailed by only two points at halftime (25-23) but made only seven of 28 shots (25 percent) in the second half. Richmond pushed its lead to 10 points early in the second half as it wound up shooting 14-25 (56 percent) over the final 20 minutes. The Bonnies' 41 points were a season low. Andell Cumberbatch led St. Bonaventure with 10 points.

St. Bonaventure dropped to 8-6 overall and 1-2 in the Atlantic 10.

How It Happened:

  • Youssou Ndoye was whistled for two fouls in the first minute and a half of the game, sending the senior center to the bench.
  • St. Bonaventure fell behind 10-4 after a dunk by Alonzo Nelson-Ododa. The Bonnies missed nine of their first 11 shots from the field.
  • The Bonnies regained their composure and used a 10-3 run to take a 16-13 lead on a drive by Andell Cumberbatch with 6:33 left in the period.
  • Chris Dees and Iakeem Alston provided valuable minutes off the bench in the first half; Dees grabbed seven rebounds and scored four points in 15 minutes of work.
  • The game remained close the rest of the first half and Richmond eventually took a 25-23 lead into halftime. After a very slow start, both teams rallied to shoot 40 percent from the field in the opening 20 minutes.
  • Marcus Posley, the A-10's leading scorer, started out making only one of his first seven shots. He finished the game 3-12 for six points, a season low.
  • It was a 36-31 game when Richmond scored eight unanswered points to open its largest lead of the game to that point at 44-31 with 8:52 remaining.
  • From that point, the Bonnies could not come any closer than 11 points.
  • The Bonnies struggled to find offense in the second half, shooting 7-28 from the field (25 percent) in the second half with nine turnovers. St. Bonaventure also did not make a three-pointer in the game, finishing 0-10.
  • Richmond made 14 of its 25 shots (56 percent) in the second half.  
  • Ndoye wound up scoring only six points with six rebounds in 20 minutes of action.

Up Next: St. Bonaventure will host George Mason on Wednesday, Jan. 14, at Blue Cross Arena in Rochester. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
