Dayton, which has won five in a row, made 56 percent of its shots overall. How It Happened:
- Early in the game, Dayton made three consecutive three-pointers to jump out to a 14-8 lead.
- The Flyers pushed their lead as large as 12 points at 28-16 on a three-pointer by reserve forward Bobby Wehrli with 7:12 left until halftime.
- St. Bonaventure, which was plagued by nine first-half turnovers, clawed back with a 10-2 run that made the score 30-26 with 3:36 left.
- Dayton then scored seven straight points to make it 37-26.
- Jay Adams drained a long three-pointer from the top of the key just before the halftime horn to make it 39-31 and give the Bonnies some momentum.
- Marcus Posley scored the first basket of the second half, but Dayton went up 44-33 with five straight points.
- The Bonnies cut the deficit down to eight at 49-41, but again the Flyers answered and used a 12-4 run to open a 61-45 lead with 9:12 left to play.
- From that point, St. Bonaventure was not able to come any closer than 12 points.
- As it was in the first half, three-point shooting was the key to the Flyers. Dayton made eight three-pointers in the second half on 13 attempts.
- Four Dayton players made at least three three-pointers led by Scoochie Smith and Jordan Sibert who both made four. Sibert led all scorers with 22 points.
- Marcus Posley, the A-10's leading scorer, matched his season average of 17 points.
- The Bonnies had a difficult time getting the ball inside to center Youssou Ndoye, who finished 1-4 shooting and totaled eight points.
- St. Bonaventure shot 41 percent (20-48) overall but went just 3-14 (21 percent ) from three-point range.
Beyond the Box Score:
- Dayton's 14 three-pointers are the most allowed by a St. Bonaventure team since Nov. 18, 2007, when Presbyterian made 15 – in a 79-72 Bonnies win in the BTI Invitational in New Mexico.
- Youssou Ndoye's streak of double-digit rebound games was snapped at 10, which was tied for the longest in NCAA Division I this season. Ndoye grabbed nine.
- Ndoye, the A-10 leader in both rebounding and blocked shots, rejected three Dayton shots.
Post-Game Quotes From Coach Mark Schmidt:
"All the credit goes to Dayton. They play extremely well, shooting 14-24 from three and 20 assists and we couldn't defend them. We couldn't keep them in front or defend the three-point line. Going into the game we knew that they were 4-0 with a small line-up. They played extremely well offensively."
"The fear going into the game was that Dayton was going to space us out and take us off the bounce. They do a great job of making the one more pass. When (Dayton's) Pierre plays the way he did in the hole, as a coach you decide do you double or not and when you doubled, they would make that extra pass. When they shoot the ball the way they did tonight, they are a tough team to play."
"We didn't get anything of our defense and as the game is going along, I think we panicked a little bit offensively. They did a good job fronting the post, pressuring us on the perimeter and forcing us to not get the ball inside."
Up Next: St. Bonaventure will travel to Richmond, Va., to face the Richmond Spiders on Sunday, Jan. 11, at 3:00.
