APALACHIN, N.Y. – The St. Bonaventure University golf team stands in fifth place overall following the first round of the Binghamton Fall Invitational at the Links at Hiawatha Landing.
The Bonnies turned in a team score of 298 and trail tournament-leading Delaware by 14 shots. Rhode Island (289) is second while Lafayette (292) and Towson (297) are third and fourth in the 16-team field with the Bonnies rounding out the top five.
Senior Josh Stauffer, who earned medalist honors at the Little Three Championship on Wednesday, led the Bonnies by carding an even-par 72 for the day including a two-under 34 on the front nine. Stauffer ranks tied for seventh on the individual leaderboard.
It continued the run of strong play for Stauffer as he has posted a scoring average of 71.6 over the past three tournaments including Sunday's round.
Sophomore Patrick Sheerer, fresh off a third place finish at the Little Three Championship, also fired a solid round of 74 after coming in with a one-under 35 on the back nine.
Also in the scoring for the Bonnies were sophomore Corey Long (75), freshman Brent Morgan (77) and senior Darren Simons (78).
Playing as an individual, senior Patrick Milkovich finished with a three-over 75.
Six players were in red figures on Sunday, led by a 65 from Delaware's Jack Gianniny.
Round two is set for Monday with the Bonnies' tee times beginning at 9:15 a.m.
