Box Score ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. - The St. Bonaventure women's soccer team fell to George Washington, 2-1, in a physical double-overtime Atlantic 10 game on Sunday afternoon at the Marra Athletics Fields Complex.
The two teams went into the break locked at 0-0 following a tough first half. Both teams combined for just three shots, and SBU had the lone shot on goal in the half. Each team had one corner opportunity apiece.
George Washington stormed down the field on a breakaway at the 64:39 mark, but SBU's keeper Beth Moore turned away the would-be goal.
The Bonnies broke the scoreless tie in the 75th minute as Abby Maiello connected with Danielle Vis, who put it in the back of the net to give the Bonnies a 1-0 lead.
George Washington tied it up, however, as Sofia Pavon netted a Brittany Cooper pass in the 81st minute.
In the 87th minute, GW had an opportunity to take the lead as the Bonnies fouled the Colonials inside the box. Emily Brown ripped the penalty kick low toward the left post, but Bonnies keeper Beth Moore made a fully extended dive to punch the ball wide and out of bounds to preserve the tie. The 1-1 score held up through regulation and the two teams went into overtime.
In the first overtime period, Maiello went on the break and fired a shot, but the GW keeper sent it away. Maiello's attempt served as the only shot by either team in the period. The 1-1 tie lasted, and the game went into the second overtime period.
George Washington (7-4-0, 2-0-0 A-10) would break the tie, though. Early in the second overtime period, Nicole Belfonti put the ball in the upper left corner of the Bona net from point-blank range to give the Colonials the overtime win.
The Bonnies drop to 3-6-2 overall and 0-2-0 in Atlantic 10 play following the setback.

- Bona keeper Beth Moore made her first start since Sept. 4 against Akron.
- Danielle Vis had a team-high three shots.
- For the second consecutive game, both of Abby Maiello's shots went on net.
- George Washington's Nichole Belfonti received a yellow card in the 64th minute. GW was called for 10 total fouls in the game.
- GW sent in seven substitutes while SBU sent in three.
- Seven Bonnies played all 102 minutes.
- This is the third game the Bonnies have sent into double overtime. SBU is 0-1-2 in double-overtime games this season.
Up Next: The Bonnies will hit the road for two consecutive games road conference games, the first coming on Thursday, Oct. 8 at Duquesne. Kickoff is set 1:00 PM. From there, the Bonnies will head to Fordham to take on the Rams on Sunday, Oct. 11 at 7:00 PM.
