The Short Story
Marcus Posley has made last-second game winners before. Wednesday at Alumni Arena, he did it again, lifting St. Bonaventure to a 60-58 win over Buffalo with a jumper with eight seconds left.

Posley's clutch shot ended a dry spell during which Bonnies didn't score a point from Dion Wright's layup at the 6:15 mark until the game-winner.  Wright was the star of the game, setting a career high with 26 points.

St. Bonaventure built its largest lead of the night at 56-47 with 7:46 remaining before its offense went cold. The Bonnies went just 2-21 from three-point range for the game. Defense offset the poor shooting, however, as Bona held Buffalo to 38 percent shooting in the second half and forced 21 UB turnovers in the game.

Posley now has made three last-second game-winning shots in his 37 games with the Bonnies. He made game-winning layups just prior to the final horn at Davidson and against VCU last season.

How It Happened:

  • St. Bonaventure had early foul troubles as both Denzel Gregg and Derrick Woods were called for two fouls in the first seven minutes of the game.
  • Dion Wright got off to a hot start, helping the Bonnies overcome some of the foul issues. He scored 10 of the team's first 19 points as Bona led 19-14 midway through the opening half.
  • Other than a brief span when Buffalo led 23-22, the Bonnies never trailed in the first half.
  • Nelson Kaputo's three-pointer with two seconds left before halftime gave St. Bonaventure a 38-33 lead at the break.
  • Wright paced the Bonnies with 16 first-half points.
  • Derrick Woods' slam and a score inside by Posley extended St. Bonaventure's lead to 44-35 at the 16:25 mark of the second half.
  • Wright scored on a runner in the lane with 7:44 left to make it a 56-47 Bonnies advantage. It gave him 24 points, tying his career high.
  • Wright scored again 1:29 later to set a new career best with 26 points.
  • The Bonnies had to overcome their own poor shooting, particularly in the second half when they went just 10-28 from the field including 0-7 from long range.
  • UB cut the lead down to 58-53 on a dunk by Ikenna Smart with 3:20 remaining.
  • The Bulls' run continued as Lamonte Bearden made one of two at the line to pull UB within 58-56.
  • UB forward Rodell Wigginton was fouled and made both free throws with 37 seconds left to tie the game at 58. UB shot 32 free throws, making only 19, compared to 8-9 for St. Bonaventure.
  • After a timeout, the Bonnies got the ball inside to Wright but he was double-teamed and he was able to pass it to Posley, who took a fadeaway jumper from just outside the free throw line. The shot dropped through the net with 7.9 seconds left.
  • Buffalo had a chance to force overtime but Woods blocked an off-balance drive by Bearden.

Beyond The Boxscore:

  • Freshmen Woods, Kaputo and Griffin all contributed at different points in the win. Woods played through foul problems and had two points and five rebounds in addition to his last-second block.
  • Idris Taqqee's seven rebounds are a new career high.
  • St. Bonaventure is now 2-0 in Big 4 games this season; the Bonnies will try for their second straight Big 4 sweep when they host Niagara Dec. 30.
  • The Bonnies have now won seven of the last eight meetings with Buffalo and lead the series 8-2.
