In its earliest start to the "spring" season on record, St. Bonaventure's golf team opened 2015 with a last place showing out of 10 teams at the Folino Invitational hosted by Cal State-Fullerton.
In their first on-course play since last October, the Bonnies shot 324 in Monday's opening round. They improved to 312 in the second round, which started Monday and finished on Tuesday, then shot 316 in the final round for a tournament total of 952.
Sacramento State ran away with the Folino title, besting second place Seattle University by 23 shots, 875-898. UC Santa Barbara finished third at 898. St. Bonaventure was the only participating team from the east.
Junior Josh Stauffer was St. Bonaventure's top finisher with rounds of 78, 76 and 77 for a total of 231 (+15). Stauffer tied for 29th place in the field of 53 players. Senior Dan Dunnigan rebounded from an opening 85 to shoot 78 and 80 in the next two rounds for a total of 243. Freshman Corey Long was next at 81-83-80/244, while juniors Patrick Milkovich (80-79-88) and Darren Simons (89-79-79) both finished at 247.
