Bonnies Fall At Hot-Shooting George Washington

Short Story: St. Bonaventure lost 69-46 to George Washington on Wednesday at the Smith Center.

The Colonials made 10 of their 18 three-point shots on the night, including seven out of 10 in the first half. GW opened a 23-11 lead by the 7:55 mark of the first half and led 36-18 at halftime. St. Bonaventure could not cut its deficit any lower than 12 points in the second half.

Marcus Posley led the Bonnies with 12 points while Andell Cumberbatch and Dion Wright added 10 points each. St. Bonaventure, which went 2-15 from three-point range, fell to 14-12 overall and 7-8 in the Atlantic 10.

How It Happened:

  • St. Bonaventure fell behind 10-6 early as GW made four of its first five shots from the field.
  • GW's hot shooting continued throughout the first half as the Colonials made their first four and then six of their first eight three-pointers of the game.
  • John Kopriva made a three-pointer followed by a layup to extend the GW lead to 31-16 with 2:45 left in the first.
  • GW extended its lead to 36-18 at halftime.
  • In the first half, the Colonials made 14 of their 21 shots from the field including 7-10 from three-point range. St. Bonaventure was just 7-24 from the field.
  • St. Bonaventure cut the deficit down to 12 points at 48-36 but GW quickly answered with a three-pointer by Joe McDonald. That was the closest the Bonnies came after that.
  • McDonald went 5-6 from three-point range for the game.
  • Youssou Ndoye finished with eight points and nine rebounds.

Beyond The Boxscore:

  • The 18-point halftime margin was St. Bonaventure's largest deficit at intermission this season.
  • GW came into the game shooting 31 percent from three-point range for the season. Their 10-18 (.556) night was the second-most three-pointers allowed by St. Bonaventure in a game this season.
  • Youssou Ndoye's nine rebounds give him 663 for his career, moving him past Gerry Schlee '56 into 15th place on the Bonnies' all-time rebounds list.
  • Idris Taqqee played 13 minutes off the Bona bench and had two points.

Up Next: This Saturday, Feb. 28, St. Bonaventure will host Duquesne at the Reilly Center at 4:00. It will be Senior Day as the Bonnies will honor their four seniors prior to the final game with students on campus prior to Spring Break.
