Improving @BonniesGolf Finishes Sixth At Cape Fear; Stauffer Ties for Second

LELAND, N.C. - St. Bonaventure completed its second tournament of 2015 with a vastly-improved performance, finishing sixth out of 12 teams at the Cape Fear National Intercollegiate.

St. Bonaventure finished with a 72-hole total of 920 on rounds of 314-303-303. The Bonnies ended up six shots behind fifth-place Robert Morris and 18 shots ahead of North Dakota. Gardner-Webb won the tournament title at 886 followed by host Appalachian State at 895 and High Point at 896.

All-Conference junior Josh Stauffer had another outstanding tournament as he finished in a tie for second place in the field of 70 players. Stauffer opened with a one-under par 71 on Sunday and then shot identical rounds of 74 for a total of 219. He finished five shots behind winner Jack Sides of High Point.

All four of the Bonnies' other players in the lineup improved their scores from the opening rounds in the second or third rounds. Junior Darren Simons shot 80-76-77 for total of 233 to tie for 36th place. One shot behind Simons, classmate Patrick Milkovich finished at 234 on rounds of 81-75-78. Senior Dan Dunnigan finished strong with a final round 74, his best round of the tournament, after 84 and 79 for a total of 237.  Freshman Corey Long was next at 82-78-80/240.

Two Bonnies played at Cape Fear as individuals. Freshman Patrick Sheerer shot 80-76-77/233 while sophomore Evan Sommer finished with 83-81-82/246.

Up Next: The Bonnies will play in the Whiting Turner Invitational hosted by Towson (Md.) at Prospect Bay Country Club March 28-29.
