Box Score ALRINGTON, VA. – The St. Bonaventure baseball team dropped its second straight game, as the Bonnies were defeated in a pitcher's duel at George Washington on Saturday, March 28, by a score of 1-0.
The lone run came in the bottom of the fifth for the Colonials, when Kevin Mahala hit a solo homerun to break the scoreless tie.
St. Bonaventure had chances, but was never able to get on the board. In the first inning the Bonnies had a runner on third, but a fly out ended their chances. Bonaventure's second and final chance with a runner on third came in the top of the fourth when Tyler Bell advanced to third on a ground out with only one out on the board. The next two batters went on to ground out and strike out, in that order.
On the mound for the Bonnies was Connor Grey, who threw all eight innings for the Brown and White and only surrendered one run on six hits. Grey went on to record two strikeouts on the day. The Frewsburg, N.Y. native collected his first loss of the season and now holds a 2-1 overall record.
Continuing his hot hitting-streak was Thad Johnson. Johnson went two for three on the day with one walk. The junior third-baseman now has 12 multi-hit games on the year and is batting .455 with 30 hits and 13 RBIs.
Picking up the victory for George Washington was Robbie Metz, who went seven innings and allowed six hits, while striking out four. Eddie Muhl earned his seventh save of the season.
The Bonnies and Colonials will play the final game of the series on Sunday, March 29. First pitch is set for 12 p.m.
