The Short Story:
A four-run second inning by George Washington ended up being too much for the St. Bonaventure baseball team on Sunday, March 29, as the Bonnies fell to the Colonials 8-1.

George Washington jumped out to an early four-run lead by scoring four runs in the second off of three hits. GW went on to add one run in the fifth and then three in the sixth.

The lone run for the Bonnies came in the top of the third, which pulled the Brown and White within three. Thad Johnson extended his hitting-streak to six games by singling through the left side to score Cole Peterson from second.

Receiving the loss on Sunday for the Bonnies was junior Steven Klimek, who is now 2-2 on the year after giving up eight runs on six hits in 5.1 innings. Klimek notched three strikeouts.

How It Happened:

  • GW jumped out to an early four-run lead off three hits. Mahala got things started for the Colonials with a single through the left side for an RBI that drove in Selby. In the next at-bat, Cosentino doubled to right center, which scored Chapman from second. Later in the inning, Kasha laid down a sac bunt squeeze play to score Mahala. For the final run of the inning, Bartosic singled to left field to drive in Cosentino.
  • St. Bonaventure cut into the Colonials' lead in the next half inning with a Thad Johnson single to the left side that scored Cole Peterson.
  • George Washington put its lead back to four-runs in the bottom of the fifth, as Barostic scored off a sac bunt by Campbell
  • The Colonials scored three runs in the sixth to extend its lead to seven. GW scored its three runs in the inning off of an error by the left fielder, a single to left field and then a fielder's choice.

Beyond The Box Score:

  • The series between the Colonials was the first series dropped by the Bonnies this year. St. Bonaventure previously defeated Maine and Lehigh in three-game series.
  • Freshman Cole Peterson had his third game of the season with three hits. Peterson went 3-5 on the day with three singles.
