Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Game One:

Final Score: St. Bonaventure 4 – UMass 3
Location: Amherst, Mass.
Records: St. Bonaventure 12-9-2 (1-6 A-10) | UMass 6-11 (5-5 A-10)

The St. Bonaventure baseball team made an impressive comeback on Saturday, at UMass, as the Bonnies were down by three early on but fought back to claim a 4-3 victory at Earl Lorden Field.

UMass got on the board in the first inning off a passed ball with the bases loaded that scored the runner from third and moved the runners up a base. During the same at-bat, Picard knocked a sac-fly to right field that scored the runner from third. The minutemen added one more run in the third, as Picard singled to right center that scored McLam.

St. Bonaventure finally found a way to get a run across the plate in the top of the sixth when senior Tyler Bell singled to center field that scored Thad Johnson. After six innings of play, the Bonnies trailed 3-1.

The Brown and White's offense woke up in the top of the eighth, as they pushed three runs across in the inning due to small ball and sloppy play by UMass. St. Bonaventure got its first run of the inning off a bases loaded wild pitch that scored Dylan Dunn and moved the runners up to second and third. In the same at-bat, Novenche hit a sac-fly to center field to tie the game up, as Bradley Gresock tagged up from third to score. The Bonnies took the lead in the next plate appearance when Danny Urban hit a groundball to shortstop, but a throwing error on the shortstop allowed the inning to continue as Urban reached safely and Bell to score.

St. Bonaventure brought in Thad Johnson to close out the game to give the Bonnies its first conference win of the season. Johnson now has five saves on the year, which places him third all-time in a single season for most saves and four shy of the record.

The story of the day was the continuing dominance of Connor Grey on the mound. Grey had career high 12 strikeouts, which are tied for the most by any Atlantic 10 pitcher on the season. The junior righty threw 6.2 innings and gave up two earned runs on four hits. On the year, Grey has an ERA of 1.66 with 38 innings pitched and 28 strikeouts.

Game Two:
Final Score: UMass 9 – St. Bonaventure 5
Location: Amherst, Mass.
Records: St. Bonaventure 12-10-2 (1-7 A-10) | UMass 7-11 (5-6 A-10)

In game two of the unscheduled doubleheader, it would seem as every time St. Bonaventure scored, UMass had a way to answer.

St. Bonaventure started the game off on the right foot, registering a run in the first inning. Dylan Dunn singled through the left side to score Ted Dilts.

The Bonnies' lead wouldn't last long, as the Minutemen would score three runs in the bottom of the second off two doubles and a passed ball.

St. Bonaventure went on to follow suit of UMass, scoring three runs in the next half inning to grab a 4-3 advantage after the top of the third. Tyler Bell got things started once again with a single to right field that scored Dilts and Cole Peterson. In the next at-bat, Novenche singled up the middle to score Dunn.

Again, UMass wouldn't allow the Bonnies to have the lead long. The Minutemen put five runs on the board in the bottom of the third. UMass scored five runs off two hits, which includes a two RBI triple by its centerfielder. After three innings, Massachusetts led 8-4.

After three scoreless innings, St. Bonaventure was able to get a run back off a solo shot by junior third baseman Thad Johnson. This was Johnson's first home run of the season.

But, once again, UMass had an answer in the next inning, as Morris singled up the middle to score Walsh. The Bonnies threatened Massachusetts in the top of the ninth, but were unable to get anything going other than back-to-back singles by Johnson and Dilts.
