The Short Story:
The tables were turned for the St. Bonaventure baseball team on Saturday, April 18, as strong starting pitching by the La Salle Explorers shut down the Bonnies offense en route to a 4-1 loss.
The Bonnies were held to just five hits on the day, while the explorers starting pitcher, Luke Reilly, went eight innings and gave up one run on four hits. Recording the hits for the Brown and White were Tyler Walter, Dylan Dunn and Tyler Kirwan.
On the mound for St. Bonaventure was freshman Brandon Schlimm. The Kersey, Pa. native tossed six innings and allowed four runs on six hits, but only two runs were earned. Schlimm recorded a career-high nine strikeouts.
How It Happened:
- La Salle was able to get the first runs across the plate in the bottom of the second. Ryan Welling singled up the middle to drive in Josh Savakinus. Later in the inning, Welling and Ethan Springston scored on a throwing error by Cole Peterson.
- St. Bonaventure got a run back in the fourth as Dylan Dunn singled through the left side to score Tyler Walter from second.
- After three scoreless innings, the Explorers pushed their lead back to three with a Joey Raver single to center field to score Travis George.
- The Bonnies were unable to get anything going over the final two innings, as they only registered two hits, but nothing more than singles.
