The Short Story:
The St. Bonaventure baseball team was held in check by the Fordham Rams on Friday, May 1 at Houlihan Park in the Bronx, by a score of 7-2.

The Fordham Rams leaped out to an early six-run lead by the end of the fifth inning, as they were led by a two-run homerun and two-run triple.

The Bonnies were able to answer in the seventh, but were only able to register two runs in the inning. The Brown and White were held to just two hits on the day, which came from Cole Peterson and Thad Johnson.

Receiving the loss was junior right-handed pitcher Connor Grey, who tossed seven complete innings and allowed six runs on eight hits.

Fordham's Greg Weissert earned the win by throwing a complete game, while striking out 12 members of the Bonnies on 115 pitches.

How It Happened:

  • Fordham's Edmiston accounted for the first run of the game on Friday. Edmiston singled to third base with one out on the board. He would later advance to third on back-to-back wild pitches by Connor Grey. Edmiston went to score on a play, in which the catcher caught the runner at first trying to steal second.
  • The Rams went to score three more runs in the bottom half of the third inning on a two-run triple and a single to left center.
  • In the bottom of the fifth Edmiston continued to shine for Fordham, as he knocked a two-run homerun to left field.
  • The Bonnies finally responded in the top of the seventh with two runs. Tyler Bell flied out to right field for a sac-fly that drove in Cole Peterson. In the next at-bat, Tyler Walter reached on a throwing error by the shortstop that allowed Thad Johnson to score.
  • Fordham added one more run in the bottom of the eighth, en route to its five-run advantage over the Brown and White on Friday.
