The Short Story:
The St. Bonaventure baseball team was defeated on Sunday, May 10 by the Saint Joseph's Hawks, by a score of 13-2.

The game was only close for the first two innings, as the Hawks recorded five runs in the third inning to open the game wide open. St. Joe's went on to add four more in the fifth and two in the ninth, en route to its double-digit win.

On the mound for the Bonnies was Aaron Phillips, who went two innings and allowed two hits and two runs. Relieving Phillips was Nate Grant, Steven Klimek, Reston Pettit and Ben Contento. Pettit had the best outing of the four, as the Bolivar, N.Y. native went three innings with three strikeouts.

Tim Ponto of Saint Joseph's earned the win on Sunday. Ponto held the Bonnies to just one run over five innings and allowed just two hits. The Hawks' pitching staff only surrendered four hits on the day.

How It Happened:

  • Saint Joseph's continued its series trend with getting a run on the board in the first inning. The Hawks tallied two on Sunday. Matt Maul scored from third when Phillips attempted a pick-off at first, which allowed Maul to reach home in the process. Later in the inning, Cal Jadacki singled to right field to score Taylor Boyd.
  • The Bonnies got a run back in the bottom of the first off a Tyler Bell ground out to second base that allowed Cole Peterson to touch home.
  • The Hawks started to pour it on in the third and the fifth inning, as they tallied a total of nine runs in the two innings.
  • St. Bonaventure added one more run in the game in the bottom of the seventh when Randy Delanoy grounded into a double play with the bases loaded and no outs, which allowed Thad Johnson to score.
  • St. Joe's went on to register two more runs in the top of the ninth to seal its double-digit victory over the Brown and White.
