Stauffer Paces @BonniesGolf On Final Day of Leo Keenan Invitational; Bonnies Finish Fourth

Highlights and Interviews

OLEAN, N.Y. – Senior Josh Stauffer fired the low round of the 27th annual Leo Keenan Invitational with a three-under 67 under ideal conditions on Monday at Bartlett Country Club as the St. Bonaventure golf team finished fourth overall.

The Bonnies entered the day in second, just three shots behind Robert Morris following Sunday's play. The Bonnies and Colonials watched as Drexel and Humber raced up the leaderboard, however, with Drexel turning in a team total of 284 on Monday to capture the championship. Christopher Crawford led the Dragons with a two-under 68 with Yoseph Dance shooting an even-par 70 and Mike Cook finishing with a 71 as Drexel's overall 284 was just three shots off the record-low team round in the history of the event.

Humber shot up the leaderboard as well after standing sixth following Sunday's play. The Hawks recorded two stellar rounds with Christian McCullough and Scott Benzoni each shooting 69.

Drexel finished with an overall team score of 579 (+19) to take the championship ahead of Humber (583), Robert Morris (584) and St. Bonaventure (588). Northern Kentucky and St. Francis (Pa.) tied for fifth at 589.

Stauffer had the finest round of the tournament with two eagles highlighting his day. He was the only player in the field to card multiple eagles. He tallied a two-under 138 for the tournament after his 71 on Sunday to finish second overall on the individual leaderboard behind only Garrett Browning of Robert Morris. Browning carded a 137 to tie for the second lowest 36-hole total in tournament history. Browning and Stauffer were the only players to finish the tournament under par.

The 67 shot by Stauffer matches the lowest round shot by a St. Bonaventure player in the history of the tournament, tying a round turned in by Brian McKenna in the final round of the 2010 edition of the event.

Freshman Brent Morgan came home with a 74 on Monday to finish tied for 12th (147) for the Bonnies while sophomore Corey Long tied for 20th after his Monday 77 to finish at 149. Freshman Matt Abrendroth shot 79 on Monday and senior Patrick Milkovich closed out the team scoring for St. Bonaventure with an 84.

Playing as an individual, junior Evan Sommer posted a 71 on Monday and finished at 147 for the two days.

Humber led the field with 24 birdies during tournament play while the Bonnies carded 21.

The Bonnies are next in action on Sept. 30 at the Little Three Championship hosted at Niagara Falls C.C.
