Hamilton, N.Y. -- St. Bonaventure is tied for seventh place out of 14 teams after the first two rounds of the Colgate Invitational, which were played Saturday at Seven Oaks Golf Course.
The Bonnies posted an opening round of 311 but fell to a 322 in the afternoon round for a 36-hole total of 633. Youngstown State is the tournament leader at 606 followed by Cornell at 609, Bucknell at 611 and the host Red Raiders at 612. Lafayette is in fifth at 620, Fairleigh Dickinson is sixth at 627. The Bonnies are even with Iona and three shots ahead of Wagner.
Scoring was a challenge at the par-72 course, evidenced by no player finishing under par. Ryan Allison of Colgate leads the field at 145 (+1), one shot ahead of Bucknell's Connor O'Brien.
St. Bonaventure's leaders after 36 holes are sophomore Corey Long and freshman Brent Morgan, who both are at 157 and are tied for 25th place. Long shot rounds of 77 and 80, while Morgan carded 76 and 81 in his college debut.
The Bonnies' other freshman, Matt Abendroth, is one shot back at 158 after consecutive 79s. He is tied for 32nd place.
Seniors Josh Stauffer and Patrick Milkovich had a tough starts to their seasons. Stauffer opened with 79 but fell to an 82 in the afternoon for a total of 161. Milkovich shot 84-83 for a total of 167.
The tournament's final 18 holes will be played on Sunday.
