The Starting Five Notes
1. St. Bonaventure completes play in the Lone Star Showcase against Pepperdine on Wednesday at 6 p.m. ET. The Bonnies would be the round-robin tournament champs with a win and a Central Michgan win over Little Rock.
2. The Bonnies improved to 2-2 with a convincing, 102-71 win over Central Michigan on Tuesday. Five players scored in double figures led by the Bonnies' backcourt of Matt Mobley (28) and Jaylen Adams (17 points, nine assists). Idris Taqqee scored 15 points, and Denzel Gregg recorded his second career double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
3. Adams was a first team All-Conference selection last year and is one of the top 50 candidates for the John Wooden Award. He has started his season well, averaging 19.5 points and 6.3 assists per game.
4. Junior guard Matt Mobley is off to a fantastic start to his debut season at St. Bonaventure. Mobley, who sat out last year after transferring from Central Connecticut State, is averaging 23 points per game, which ranks second among Atlantic 10 players. He has three 20-point games.
5. The Lone Star Showcase is St. Bonaventure's first in-season tournament since 2013, when the Bonnies played in the Gulf Coast Showcase in Florida. It also is the program's first game in the state of Texas since 2006, when the Bonnies were in the 2K Classic at the University of Texas.
