The Short Story
St. Bonaventure came up on the short end of an NBA-type score on Thursday night, falling 106-101 to Canisius in overtime at the Reilly Center.
Matt Mobley, who scored a career high 33 points, forced the OT with a three-pointer with four seconds left in regulation. In overtime, the Bonnies three times went ahead but could not hold the leads. Mobley's three-pointer with 40 seconds left gave St. Bonaventure a 101-100 edge, but Kiefer Douse answered with a layup for Canisius off a scramble with 25 seconds remaining. Mobley missed a pair of three-point shots in the closing seconds and the Griffs sealed the win with free throws.
St. Bonaventure junior point guard and Wooden Award candidate Jaylen Adams fouled out of the game with 4:03 left in regulation. He finished with 17 points and eight assists, but the Bonnies sorely missed him the rest of the game.
Three-point shooting propelled Canisius (8-5), which has now won five games in a row. The Griffs made 15 of 38 (39.5 percent) of their shots from long range. Phil Valenti led Canisius with 27 points and freshman guard Isaiah Reese scored 22.
Both teams shot over 52 percent from the field. The Bonnies (8-4) went 11-25 (44 percent) from three-point range and were 22-25 at the free throw line.
Senior forward David Andoh scored a career high 18 points for the Bonnies and Denzel Gregg added 15 points, seven rebounds and three blocks.

- The Bonnies struggled to defend the three ball early, as Canisius went 7-11 from three-point range over the first 13:13. Canisius took a 35-22 lead with 6:37 left in the first half.
- At the 5:58 mark, a Matt Mobley three-pointer would help the Bonnies begin 10-4 run over the next 1:56, narrowing the deficit to 39-32.
- Mobley and Andoh made back-to-back three pointers followed by a Gregg score that tied the game up at 41 with 2:10 left in the half.

- Canisius led by four but LaDarien Griffin's reverse layin at the 2:13 mark cut the deficit to 87-85.

Quotes From Coach Mark Schmidt
- "If the fans came for an offensive game, they saw it. When you score 101 points in your home gym, you should win. But we didn't. From an offensive standpoint, we're fine … but we've got to get better on the defensive end with more of a commitment individually and as a team. We've got to get better. We can really score the basketball, but at this level, you've got to be able to defend it and we certainly didn't do that today."
- "Give Canisius credit, the two freshmen [Spencer Foley] and [Isaiah Reese] really killed us. We knew [Phil Valenti] was good and that [Jermaine Crumtpon] was good … They played really well. They came in and they were really hot. They certainly shot it well again tonight, especially the freshmen."
- On Matt Mobley: "From an offensive standpoint, he kept us in the game. He hit some big shots, (especially) that big shot to send us into overtime. He's a talented kid that needs to continue to work at the other end. From an offensive standpoint, he and the whole team, couldn't have played much better, but we've got to play better as a team on the other end."
