The Short Story
When his team needed him most, Marcus Posley brought his "A" game and then some to Blue Cross Arena in Rochester on Wednesday night. The senior guard scored a career high 47 points to lead the Bonnies to an 98-90 win over Saint Joseph's, pulling St. Bonaventure into a three-way tie for second place in the Atlantic 10 with the Hawks and Dayton.
Posley was nearly perfect as he made 15 of 19 shots, including 6-7 from beyond the arc, and went 11-12 at the free throw line. The 6-foot senior entered the night averaging 18.3 points per game; he had four 30-point games this season.
In a game that had major implications in the Atlantic 10 standings as well as for postseason resumes, the Bonnies started well and led 41-28 at halftime. In the second half, they quickly saw that lead disappear as the Hawks tied the game at 58 with 11:58 remaining. The Bonnies then regained control with an 18-2 run to take a 76-60 lead with just under eight minutes left. Posley scored 11 of the Bonnies' 18 points in that surge.
Senior forward Dion Wright had 22 points and grabbed six rebounds as the Bonnies beat Saint Joseph's (24-6/13-4) for the second time this year. Denzel Gregg added 14 points, six rebounds and two blocks.
St. Bonaventure has won nine of its last 10 games.
